What's in a Name?
Montanya (mun-tan-yah) means
"Mountain" in Spanish. Rum has very distinguished and
celebrated origins in the mountainous regions of Central America,
and wanted our name to give a nod to rum's
storied past. Since making rum in the mountains is a big part
of part of our story too, it seemed like a natural fit.
Of course, we also liked the lilt and sexiness of it. Admittedly, we removed the 'enye'
from the word and gave it a 'y' instead. No offense, people of
America, but we didn't trust you to look at the word 'Montaῆa' and
not say 'Montana', like the state north of Wyoming. This is a
Colorado product through and through.
